Gamma Chi Advice: Bid Day
After an extremely long week, filled with both heavy rain and hot sun, many laughs, some tears, sleep deprivation and a lot of Chick-fil-a, Panhellenic Recruitment 2017 has now come to an end! This evening at 6pm, the Potential New Members (PNMs) will fill Tate Grand Hall with a sea of white dresses and anxiously await the moment until their Gamma Chis distribute their bid cards. After this week, the PNMs cannot wait to find out where they will spend their next four years at the University of Georgia.
However, often the culture of Panhellenic Recruitment paints Bid Day to be the best day of a PNMs life. While Bid Day is certainly an exciting time, it can also be overwhelming, shocking or even stressful for the PNMs. As Gamma Chi, Melanie (Group 77) puts it, "Bid Day will always be a day to remember, but that doesn't mean it's going to be the best day of your college career. You still have so many wonderful times ahead of you, so if you're feeling nervous, don't fret. I promise you're not the only one!" Hannah (Group 45) offers a poignant piece if advice, saying "Bid Day can be such a blur! It's a little nerve wracking and so exciting. You're in a new sisterhood with so many new faces, but let the newness excite you rather than overwhelm you. However you want to spend your bid night is how you should spend your bid night! Your new sisters are there for you and should make this night oh-so special. That being said if you need anything at all, feel free to reach out to your Gamma Chi if you need anything! Even though formal recruitment is over, we still love you so much and will do whatever we need to make sure your time with your new sisters and at your new school is as great as possible! We are all so happy for you and CONGRATULATIONS on making it to Bid Day!"
