The Sporty Side of Sydney
Phi Mu Ivie Teston says "Hi" from Sydney, Australia! On Sunday May 15th, Phi Mu Ivie Teston hopped on a plane to fly down under for what has become one of the greatest experiences in her life. For the past 6 weeks, Ivie has been thriving in Sydney and working as an intern for Fox Sports Australia. She said, "I am so lucky to be able to work with some of the biggest names in sports production in Australia. Throughout my time here I have been learning how to cut clips, edit, and report. My favorite times have no doubt been traveling with the production crew and reporters to the outside broadcasting sites. I’ve met countless professional athletes and learned so much about the sporting culture here. You would not believe how many different types of rugby there are and the rules that come with each one. I can barely keep up." The sports broadcasting industry is such a fast-paced environment that the Phi Mu always has new projects. "I think that’s why people find it so addicting," Ivie stated. Aside from working, she had the opportunity to travel and see many amazing things, her favorite being the Great Ocean Road tour outside of Melbourne where she saw the famous 12 Apostles. Ivie said, "It’s so crazy to be on your own in a foreign country; I’ve definitely learned a lot about myself as well. Thankfully, I’ve been staying with the most wonderful family. Mark and Amanda have become my second parents. You could say this summer is going pretty well for me. Wouldn’t trade my time in beautiful Sydney for anything, even though it is winter here!"
