Where Challenges Become Triumphs
Delta Gamma senior Danielle Kardon has had the honor to work at Camp Twin Lakes as a member of their Program Staff since May of 2013. Camp Twin Lakes (CTL) is a non-profit organization that provides life-changing camp programs throughout the year for thousands of children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges. Danielle said, "When I drove through the gate at CTL Will-A-Way in May of 2013, I had no idea the extent to which my life would change for the better because of this place and the people who call it their second home. To me, Camp Twin Lakes is so special because of how much campers learn to overcome obstacles, how much they grow individually in their confidence, and how much their capabilities are revealed to themselves". The things these campers take away from one week at camp aren’t lessons that are applicable only in a camp environment, they are lessons they can take with them back to the “real world”. From the rock-climbing wall to the swimming pool to the dining hall and every other place at CTL, she has seen kids grow and thrive as well as make friendships that have flourished and continued outside of camp. Here's what Danielle had to say about the impact Camp Twin Lakes has had on her life: "After returning home from my first summer at camp, I was ecstatic to find out that UGA has a club, Camp for a Cause with Camp Twin Lakes at UGA, that is dedicated to raising awareness and fundraising for CTL, and I had the privilege to serve as their President last year. This is just a tiny glimpse of the incredible experience I’ve had at CTL over the past three years. Camp Twin Lakes truly is a place “Where Challenges Become Triumphs” and I’m so excited to spend my fourth consecutive summer at this amazing place!!"
